General Description of Work

Essential Functions:

The Controller will be responsible for the accounting department in matters related to accounting, financial reporting, corporate controls, financial analysis, business insurance risk management and working capital management in keeping with the organization's strategic objectives.

  • The Controller will prepare reports to summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
  • Oversee and manage all general ledger activity.
  • Responsible for managing operational data and ensuring data integrity and accuracy
  • Develop operational procedures and documentation of data flow
  • Develop system controls to ensure data integrity
  • Assure internal control compliance

 

  • Train staff on internal control procedures
  • Substantiate and approve expenditures and expense reports
  • Producing accurate and timely financial statements
  • Prepare the month end closing and financial reporting process including account analysis and reconciliation
  • Assist in special projects as necessary
  • Facilitate the monthly closing process and roll up of subsidiaries
  • Oversee accounting functions including payroll, A/P, inventory accounting
  • Oversee in the preparation of financial budgets and forecasts at both the store level and on a consolidated basis
  • Prepare and oversee monthly bank reconciliations as part of the closing process
  • Work with outside accounts and service providers on federal, state and local reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller or Senior Accountant
  • CPA candidate a plus
  • Knowledge in working with the state on sales tax matters
  • Private accounting experience
  • Experience with QuickBooks 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong supervisory and analytical skills
  • Ability to work as a team player across departments and to adapt to a fast changing environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Access

Education and/or Experience:

BS/BA in Accounting or Finance. MBA optional.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
